What is cataract?
Cataract is cloudiness of the natural lens in the eyes. The natural lens inside the eye is transparent and helps to focus light rays entering the eye to create a clear image. This lens can become cloudy with age, or due to certain    medications, or eye diseases. The cloudiness of the lens or cataract distorts the light entering the eye and affects    the quality of vision.

What is a cataract surgery?
Cataract surgery involves removal of the cloudy lens and replacement with a clear artificial lens called IOL(intraocular lens).
The procedure is painless and done under light sedation. It takes about 20 minutes to perform the procedure.

What are the different lens options?
There are different lens options for you to choose from ranging from basic or standard monofocal IOL  to an advanced multifocal IOL, and astigmatism corrections IOL.
Monofocal IOLs: I These IOls  improve vision at a set distance of your choice- either far or mid range or near only
Advanced multifocal IOLs: They improve vision at all distance and reduce the need for readers. 
Astigmatism correction IOLs: These correct or reduce astigmatism.

Your surgeon will discuss different options with you to help you choose a lens that is best suited for your lifestyle, visual needs and preferences.

What is laser assisted cataract surgery?
There are two ways of doing a cataract surgery. In the traditional way the surgeon uses hand held instruments for the procedure. the laser assisted technique is a bladeless method of performing cataract surgery.  Many of the crucial steps in the surgery are done by a laser machine which makes the steps more precise and allows less energy use for removing the cataract from the eye.

Do I need cataract surgery?
This depends on the severity of cataract and how it is affects how vision, and daily functions. If you think your vision is impairing your daily activities you probably need a cataract surgery.
